About Word Farm

Word Farm hands you a small set of letters and a board with blanks on it, and the blanks are the question: which words hiding in these letters are the ones this level wants? Everything you need is already in front of you, which is what makes it the rare puzzle nobody has to be taught.

You form a word by dragging across the letters in order, and a correct one drops into place on the board. The letters do not change during a level, so a level you are stuck on is never a matter of luck — the words are all there, and finding them is a question of how you look rather than what you were dealt.

It suits short sittings and it survives interruption, which is a rarer combination than it sounds. Nothing is chasing you, and the vocabulary you brought with you is the whole of your equipment.

How to play

  1. Look at the letters the level gives you, and at the blanks waiting on the word board.
  2. Drag across the letters in order to spell a word — the path you trace is the word you are making.
  3. A valid word drops into its place on the board and stays there.
  4. Keep going until every word the level asks for has been found.
  5. Completing the board finishes the level and moves you on to the next set of letters.

Tips and strategy

Start with the three-letter words

Short words are easier to spot and they fill blanks that show you the shape of the longer ones. Hunting for the big word first is how people stare at the same seven letters for five minutes and find nothing.

Work the endings

Run your available letters against the common endings — ED, ER, ING, LY, S, Y — and see which stems survive. It turns an unbounded search into a short list, and it is the single fastest habit to pick up.

Let the vowels organise the search

Every word needs at least one, and most sets give you only two or three. Building outward from a vowel rather than scanning the whole set narrows the possibilities immediately.

Use the blanks as a clue

The board tells you how long each missing word is, and any letters already placed tell you where they sit. A four-blank slot with a letter in the middle is a far smaller problem than 'find a word'.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a big vocabulary?

Not really. The words in a level come from everyday English, and the blanks on the board tell you how long each one is — which does most of the narrowing for you.

Can I make a word using the same letter twice?

Only if the level gave you that letter twice. You are working from the set in front of you, and each letter in it can be used once per word.

What if I cannot find the last word?

The letters never change during a level, so it is still there. Working through the common endings against your vowels is usually faster than staring at the set as a whole.

Do I need an account to play?

No. Guests get three free sessions per device each day; an account adds saved progress, a Tickets wallet and a place on the leaderboards.
